About ACT Labor: Branch Organisation

The ACT Branch consists of 15 sub-branches, which are based around groups of suburbs. A number of sub-branches make up a Federal/Local Electorate.

The decision making body of the Branch as a whole is Branch Conference, which meets annually. This Conference sets out the principles and policies which guide the Branch for the next 12 months. Branch Council meets every two months, and is the decision making body between Conference. The day to day running of the Branch is done by the Administrative Committee, which meet once a month. The Branch Executive consists of the President, Senior and Junior Vice Presidents, the Secretary/Treasurer, and the Administrative Committee.

The main organisational units of the Branch are the sub-branches, the Policy Committees, the Electorate Councils, Branch Conference and Branch Council, and the Administrative Committee. These different units of the Branch are all inter-related.

Sub-branches can send elected delegates, and can send motions and endorsed recommendations to Policy Committees, Electorate Councils, Branch Council and Branch Conference. Policy Committees and Electorate Councils will send motions to Branch Council and Branch Conference, and, if appropriate, to each other. Administrative Committee may send recommendations to Branch Council, which may then send decisions back to Administrative Committee for implementation.
