Member for Brindabella
Joy Burch has a proven record of listening to and delivering for the communities of Brindabella since she was elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly in 2008. In October 2012, Joy was re-elected to the Assembly with a significant personal vote - the result of four years of hard work on behalf of her electorate and a solid performance as a Minister in the ACT Government.
Prior to her election in 2008, Joy worked as a nurse, managed her own childcare business, managed community health and support services, and worked in policy roles in both the government and non-government sectors.
In late 2009 Joy was appointed to the Ministry, taking on the portfolios of Housing, Ageing, Community Services, Women, Multicultural Affairs, Children and Young People, and Disability. She later served as Minister for Education and Training, Minister for Disability, Minister for the Arts, Minister for Gaming and Racing and Minister for Police and Emergency Services.
Joy has a strong commitment to accessible and affordable health care; access to high quality education services; and well planned and sustained growth across the Brindabella area. The sum of Joy’s experiences has given her a well-rounded insight into the importance of effective, socially progressive governments.
