Mr Corbell was joined by Acting Chief Police Officer, David McLean, to launch the 2010-11 purchase agreement outcomes and statistics report. "I am pleased to see that ACT Policing has recorded such a positive downward trend in a range of property related offences like; rates of motor vehicle theft down by 37.3 per cent, burglary down 32.7 per cent and property damage down 21.8 per cent when compared to 2009-10 figures," Mr Corbell said. "It is also good to see that ACT policing has achieved or exceeded 28 of its 34 key performance indicators which is the best result reached by ACT Policing in eight years and since the existing reporting method was introduced. "Crime by its very nature is cyclical, and trends can change quickly, however, there is no denying the fact that a targeted and well executed campaign by ACT Policing has seen a downward trend in several of these grass roots types of crimes, and I commend ACT Policing for their efforts in protecting the Canberra community." Some of the ACT Policing measures to combat property offences in the ACT include:
Other significant achievements include a decrease in established complaints issued against police and a reduction to the number of road collisions resulting in death or serious injury per 100,000 of the population - from 20 road deaths in 2009-10 to 11 in 2010-11. Mr Corbell said he was pleased to also see that response times were being met in line with national standards. "The crime statistics show that police responded to 97.4 per cent of priority one incidents within 12 minutes and 97.9 per cent of priority two incidents within 30 minutes during this reporting period," Mr Corbell said. "A high 99.9 per cent of priority three and four incidents were also responded to within the target timeframe. "I commend police for their hard work in this area, and look forward to seeing these results continue into the coming financial year." |
