Our Transport Plan
This election isn’t a contest between buses or light rail. As Canberra continues to grow, our city needs both.
And that’s what Labor’s progressive, practical and proven plan for public transport is all about.
More rapid bus routes, more frequent local services and more electric buses purchased than any other party – and we’ll extend light rail to Woden too.
Because Labor built light rail – and we’ll always back it.
Check out our Public Transport Plan here.

Extending Light Rail to Woden
With over 16.5 million trips since 2019 and 15,000 passengers every day – we know Canberrans love light rail.
And that's why we're building the next stage to Woden.
It’s the biggest infrastructure project in Canberra's history. It'll connect our city, carry millions of passenger and create thousands of new homes and jobs.
We know if the Canberra Liberals have their way, they'll cancel light rail and cut every single job.
That’s why Andrew Barr and the Labor team will work hard every single day to make sure that doesn’t happen.

110 More Zero Emissions Buses
We’re already leading the nation on zero emissions public transport – and now we’re going even further.
We’ll purchase another 110 zero emissions buses over the next four years – that’s more than any other party and it’ll mean one third of our bus fleet will be zero emissions.
It’ll keep us on track to deliver a zero emissions bus fleet by 2040 – or even earlier.
And more buses means more drivers – that’s why we’ll recruit 350 more drivers into secure, well-paid public jobs.

Faster & More Frequent Services
We’ve been out knocking on tens of thousands of doors.
And you’ve told us you want to see more rapid bus services.
So that’s what we’ll deliver with three new Rapid services to better connect our growing city.
With a new rapid service between Lanyon and the City, one for West Belconnen and another for the growing Molonglo Valley.
At the same time, we’ll increase the frequency of existing services, with local services running every 20 minutes on weekdays, and hourly on Sundays.

Fare Free Fridays
We know Canberrans are doing it tough, that’s why we'll make public transport free on Fridays.
Whether you catch the bus or jump on the light rail, under Labor you won't pay a cent.
It'll mean more Canberrans using public transport and more money in their pocket.
We'll start it as a one year trial and it'll save commuters hundreds of dollars across the year.
