ACT Labor is hiring - ACT Labor Membership Officer

ABOUT US

ACT Labor is the Australian Capital Territory branch of the Australian Labor Party. We are responsible for administering the membership organisation and campaign operations of the Labor Party in the ACT.

We are part of Australia’s largest political party and pride ourselves on being the most progressive branch of the ALP.

Our office is a small but dedicated team where staff are encouraged to take on responsibility, drive projects and expand their skill set as part of our team‑focused approach.

THE ROLE

Following two successful elections, it's an exciting time to join ACT Labor as a Membership Officer. This is a flexible opportunity that could suit someone looking to build on foundational experience or a candidate with deeper experience looking to take a leading role in member engagement.

The role would include membership administration and engagement and involves liaising with staff, members and supporters to support our members through their membership journey. This position is an integral part of our team in providing support to the Party and our members as well as playing a pivotal role in engaging with members.

There may be multiple roles dependent on the candidate, including opportunities for part-time and full-time work. 

Core responsibilities include:

• Working with a small team of people who are responsible for managing the operations and campaigns of the party;
• Leading the office’s relationship with our membership as the first point of contact for members including over the phone and by email;
• Administration of our membership system, including processing new members and relevant data-entry and reporting;
• Working collaboratively with Branch leadership, members and supporters; and
• Assisting with events and functions as required including new member welcome events and Branch Conference.

For more experienced applicants, there is scope to take on additional responsibilities, including:

• Designing and delivering training and development programs for members;
• Supporting the development and implementation of long-term membership engagement strategies;
• Leading improvements to digital systems and processes to enhance the member experience.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We need a people-person who is comfortable leading on ideas, managing lots of moving parts, and picking up skills quickly. We are open to full-time, part-time and job share.

Selection Criteria

We know you may not tick every box - but we encourage you to apply if you bring a mix of the following:

1. Passionate about the values of the Australian Labor Party;
2. Ability to work effectively with high degree of autonomy and accountability;
3. Strong written and oral communication skills;
4. Partnership building and relationship management;
5. An ability to work with or learn the systems we use e.g. Xero, Membership CRMs, Excel, etc;
6. Experience designing and delivering training or development programs for volunteers and members (desirable); and
7. Ability to take initiative in developing member engagement strategies, campaigns or digital processes (desirable).

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

ACT Labor offers a salary commensurate with skills and experience ranging from $76,985-$91,501 + 12% superannuation contribution.

ACT Labor also offers flexible working conditions including the ability to undertake work from home. 

ACT Labor employees receive 4 weeks of annual leave, 2 days of wellbeing leave and an additional Christmas shutdown each year (pro-rata for part-time).
